Infused Water

Water makes up around 60% of our bodies and it is the primary component of our blood, sweat and tears as well as our lymphatic fluid, digestive juices and urine. It is involved in almost every single function our body performs and plays an integral role in digestion, absorption of nutrients, circulation and elimination of wastes. When we do not consume enough water we basically dry ourselves out, becoming dehydrated.

Even mild dehydration can have really negative impacts on our lives that we probably do not equate with a lack of water. Tiredness, headaches, constipation, dry skin, dizziness, nausea and heart rate and circulation issues are all indications that you may already be dehydrated.  A chronic (ongoing) state of dehydration can lead to health problems like arthritis, asthma, back pain, cataracts, chronic fatigue syndrome, colitis, depression, diabetes, heart burn, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, kidney stones, lupus, migraines, MS and muscular dystrophy… pretty depressing.

Since water works best when drunk in its natural form (definitely not when transformed into coffee, tea or pop) it is best to aim for that. However, adding in some fruits, vegetables and herbs can increase the nutrients and flavor without robbing any of the benefits. Plus it can make anywhere kind of feel like a fancy spa. I have written out some of my preferred combinations below but there really are no limits. If using citrus fruits it is best to remove the rinds because they can create a bitter taste. Also, if available, go for organic ingredients to fully support your body’s detoxification system and not give it extra pesticides to work through.
