Maple Pecan Banana Smoothie

Maple Pecan Banana SmoothieBananas are a very popular smoothie ingredient because they add density and create a nice texture. If they are frozen prior to being used they become even sweeter and create a thick, creamy smoothie. Nutritionally they are a well known source of potassium, an electrolyte that balances sodium and has been shown to help lower blood pressure. They also have notable amounts of vitamin C for strong immunity and wound recovery as well as vitamin B6 for maintaining hormone balance and forming red blood cells and transmitters in the nervous system. Adding a bit of protein and fats with a small handful of buttery pecans makes them an ideal snack for before or after workouts or when an afternoon energy slump comes around. Going one step further and blending them with some almond milk, maple syrup for extra sweetness and cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg for extra flavour makes for an easy to digest, nutrient dense and easily portable smoothie.BananasPeel as many bananas as desired, the more brown the sweeter they are, and store them in the freezer in a freezer proof and airtight container for up to a few months. From here they can be taken out and used as needed for smoothies or baking.
